Dear Members of BNAofGWDCA,

What an honor and privilege it is to be a member of this great organization! First, I want to acknowledge our Madam President, Dr. Broadnax and the  Community Service Committee Co-Chairs, Ms. Lois Bowman, and Ms. Lillian Wade for supporting this initiative.

During the general membership meeting Thursday, January 27, 2022, the Community Service Committee announced its partnership with DC Food Project Pantry Program. Briefly, the Pantry Program is located at various schools throughout the District of Columbia. It is a place where students can discreetly get food and items they need, including kids’ toiletries and other household items. Of note, the pantry is stored on school grounds for easy access to students and families. Items are distributed to students from the school pantry throughout the school year free of charge. The school that BNAofGWDCA is sponsoring is Johnson Middle School 1400 Bruce Place SE (Ward 8).

Here is how YOU can help: Donate nonperishable goods/toiletries by three methods:
1. Drop off your non-perishable food items and or toiletries by Sunday, February 6, 2022 3pm. Please contact Joan or Judy to coordinate a drop-off.

Judy Jourdain-Earl
Telephone # 202-285-2130

2. BNA volunteers can pick up items from the homes of BNA members and drop those items off at Joan’s or Judy’s house.
(please email me if you want to use this option, and a BNA volunteer will contact you to make arrangements to pick up your items)

3. Amazon Smile

We are collecting both nonperishable goods and toiletries. The list for toiletries is below:

    • Kids socks (all sizes for elementary school kids)
    • Shampoo and Conditioner (travel size are fine)

    • Travel size deodorants
    • Feminine hygiene products (tampons and pads teens)
    • Baby wipes

I know this is MOVING FAST and if you cannot participate now, don’t fret…we still have the duration of the school year (March, April, May, and June). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 202-285-2130.

With a humble heart,

Community Service Committee

Co-Chairs: Lois Bowman and Lillian Wade

BNA of GWDCA has a “distinguished legacy of community service”. In keeping with the philosophy and mission of the NBNA, Dr. Joan E. Smith, Vice President of BNA of GWDCA spearheaded the partnership between BNA of GWDC and the DC Food Pantry Program to address food insecurity in school-aged children, particularly middle school. In a very short turnaround time, the chapter collected toiletries and non-perishable items to fill 2 pantries.
